    Protection

    Your Challenge

When is a Protection Solution required?

Protective solutions are used in a range of different industries and applications. In most cases, they are protecting the environment, people, animals and equipment from the dangers that arise from hazardous chemicals or toxic and corrosive substances. In other cases, they provide essential protection to sensitive equipment and devices.

    What is a Protection Solution?

In the Aerospace industry, barrier and protection membranes are essential layers within multilayer insulation blankets and form integral layers on spiral wound, flexible convoluted hoses for the transfer of corrosive liquids.

In the Energy industry, flexible expansion joints or compensators provide protection to the flue and exhaust systems of major industrial processors of oil, coal or gas based power generating facilities to ensure unanticipated release of exhaust gases to the atmosphere.

In the Chemical Processing industry, petro-chemical storage tanks require low permeability floating roof membranes to minimise fuel losses and the risk of fire.

In protecting the environment, green and efficient fuel cells play a vital role but to ensure their energy efficiency fuel stacks require tight seals and separators within the cell and the system.

    The CHEMFAB® Solution

How do CHEMFAB ® Protection Solutions work?

One of the key capabilities of our CHEMFAB Protection solutions is that they are multi-layer, multi-material fluoropolymer based composites, reinforced with a woven scrim, usually glass or aramid fabric. Depending on the application, they are coupled with other material layers from the Saint Gobain CHEMFILM and CORETECH product range. They are multi-functional and can be configured in new developments to provide protection.

CHEMFAB PTFE coated fabrics are composites used as component parts in flexible expansion joints and ducting, are vapour containment liners in floating roof membranes and form integral layers on spiral wound, flexible convoluted hoses. In all cases, they are providing protection in the challenging environments of hazardous chemicals and toxic or corrosive substances.

In the challenging conditions in Aerospace applications, CHEMFAB BETA cloth provides essential layers within multilayer insulation blankets. In protecting the environment, green and efficient fuel cells use CHEMFAB PTFE coated fabrics as tight seals and separators within the cell and the system, improving the efficiency of the fuel cell and offer modularity to the system.

It is specifically the combination of these challenges, often with severe mechanical strength requirements and general robustness, that make the use of our Protective solutions the best choice.

    Your Results

What are the benefits of using CHEMFAB ® solutions?

Key benefit of these solutions is their reliability and safety in applications where they provide long-lasting performance in critical equipment in a range of very challenging environments, from dangerous chemicals and gases to the extreme conditions in Aerospace applications or energy efficiency in gasketing and sealing materials.

What is the level of Protection provided by these CHEMFAB ® solutions?

There is no simple answer here as it depends on the actual conditions such as the type or mix of chemicals, the temperature, the pressure as well as the ongoing level of exposure or number of temperature or pressure cycles that are present in the specific application.

What distinguishes CHEMFAB solutions are their ability to perform well in the presence of multiple stress factors or challenging conditions e.g. temperatures up to 300°C or as low as -150°C, high UV exposure as well as rain and ice, frequent flexing, elevated pressures and/or vacuum conditions as well as multiple exposure chemicals and non-burning characteristics even in presence of fire.
